We would like to augment the ranks of our servers with interested adults, especially for our Saturday 4 pm Mass. Any adult willing to serve is asked to contact Msgr. Gervasio (TGervasio@ols-sa.org) for a brief “training” for this ministry.

In December 2018, a young expectant mother, just 23 weeks along in her pregnancy, was admitted to a hospital in San Diego. The mother was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, which could have lead to fatal complications for the mother and baby. To save her life, doctors ordered a Caesarean section, and a young baby girl, nicknamed Saybie, was born. Valerie is one of 26 teens recognized by the Diocese of Trenton this year for their exemplary involvement in the life of their parish. The St. Timothy Award—named for the young disciple and companion of St. Paul—recognizes young people who live out their faith by their humility, leadership, ministry, service, and holiness. Valerie serves at Mass and has been very active in OLS-SA’s youth group, encouraging teens from the parish’s Haitian Community to participate in the group’s activities.

Thanks go out to Cheryl Uhaze, who coordinated our parish’s participation in the Loaves and Fishes Program, and to all who helped in any way, whether through donations, help with preparing or serving 500 meals, cleaning up after the meal, or distributing 500 lunches and 200 hygiene bags on Saturday, June 29.

Our parish is blessed that a group of secular (lay) Carmelites meets monthly at Our Lady of Sorrows. We wish them a most happy and blessed Feast Day!

During June, 196 hours of service were provided by 41 volunteers to 45 persons. Caring Hearts volunteers provide non-medical services to our homebound elderly and disabled neighbors. If you would like more information on joining this satisfying ministry, either as a caregiver or a care receiver, please call Anne at 586-6596.

During weekend liturgies, it is our custom (as in most parishes) to have two members of the assembly present the gifts of bread and wine at the preparation of the gifts. We encourage parishioners to take part in this “offertory procession.” For more information, click the article title.

During the next few days, parishioners should receive by mail information on our annual summer project annual. The work that we hope to undertake with your generous support will be described the folder that is sent. The appeal will run from July 1 through September 1.

If you know of anyone in need, please let them know that the food pantry (located at St Raphael’s Parish Center, 151 Gropp Ave, Hamilton) will be open from 9 to 11 am July 6 & 20. Pre-registration is not required. Also, the Food Pantry Partnership’s most needed items are jelly, peanut butter, and spaghetti sauce, along with soup and cereal.
