While New Jersey had already enshrined the right to an abortion into State Law in anticipation of the US Supreme Court ruling, the Governor last Friday signed into law two bills, supported by our district legislators, that expand abortion services even further in our State. On July 23-24, the Church will observe the “World Day for Grandparents and Elderly” a celebration established by Pope Francis on the Fourth Sunday of July for its proximity to the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandparents of Our Lord. Mission Jersey, a one day of service sponsored by the Diocese of Trenton Youth Ministry Department will be held at St. Gregory the Great on Thursday, July 28, beginning at 9:00 am. Our annual Summer Project resumes this year after a COVID year respite. Registered parishioners will soon receive a brochure and offering envelope. I hope that you will review the information and support the work we hope to undertake this summer to maintain our church campuses. I am most grateful for your support, especially when increasing inflation has impacted every household.

Thanks to all who came to the Cohort Healing Service or placed their prayer requests in the yellow buckets in advance. The parish family of Our Lady of Sorrows-Saint Anthony congratulates and extends its prayerful best wishes for a long and happy marriage to the couples who were wed in the past 12 months. Click the article title for a list of the happy couples.

Among the seven sacraments, there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are ill—the Anointing of the Sick. While the Sacrament serves to comfort the dying, it is not only for those at the point of death. It is intended to help the chronically ill and the elderly who are in a weakened condition. The Holy Name Society is an organization for men devoted to serving the needs of the parish. It aims to promote reverence for the Holy Name of Jesus, foster the spiritual life through prayer and retreats, Eucharistic adoration, visits to the sick, and support of Catholic education. Meetings will resume in October.
