On May 14, the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey expressed their sadness and outrage to the Governor’s announcement to support a proposal to radically expanded access of abortion. The bishops reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to serve and stand by all mothers facing a hardship or unplanned pregnancy. There is a bill currently before the state legislature that would permit abortions for any reason for all nine months of pregnancy, eliminate conscience protections for medical professionals, require taxpayers to pay for the abortions whether or not they have moral objections, and prohibit the adoption of future laws that conflict with any provision of this bill. Your help is needed to stop the Women's Health Protection Act, which has passed in the House, and is now headed to the Senate. This is the most radical pro-abortion bill ever attempted at the Federal Level (very much like the one waiting to be brought to a vote in NJ). This is not about women's health; it is not about choice; and fighting it is not about forcing our religious views on those who don't share them. There are three pending bills that are extremely important to defeat: the HR-5 "Equality Act" and the repeal of the Hyde Amendment on the federal level, and the "Reproductive Freedom Act" (S3030/A4848) on the state level. The Supreme Court has announced it will hear the case Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health. The case will pose a fundamental question to the court that challenges aspects of Roe v. Wade: “Whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional.” In other words, is it constitutional to have certain legal pro-life protections before the preborn child is able to survive outside the womb?
