Bishop O'Connell has granted a dispensation from the obligation to abstain from meat on Friday, March 17th, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. However, those who take advantage of the dispensation are asked to transfer the Friday abstinence obligation to another day, or to perform a work of charity or some other exercise of piety to fulfill the spirit of the obligation.

Lent is a penitential season, and thus requires a certain amount of fasting and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and days of fasting and abstinence. Click here for a link to more information.

This year, the penitential season of Lent begins on February 22. Please bring in all old palms to be burned and used for ashes on Ash Wednesday. There are containers at all the church exit doors on the weekends to hold the palms. Please bring all palms in before February 19.

Bishop O'Connell has sent a letter on the penitential season of Lent, including a full explanation of fasting and abstinence--when it is required, and who is required to fast and abstain from meat. For a link to the letter, click here.

A sacramental confession is always a great blessing and source of grace, especially in preparation for the Church's great feasts. In addition to the regular Saturday confessions on December 10 and 17, we are providing an additional time on Tuesday, December 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. There will be NO scheduled confession times on Saturday, December 24.

Starting the weekend of November 26 - 27, the Church will be celebrating the season of Advent. Our parish will return to its tradition of inviting families to carry the lighted Advent candle in procession at the beginning of each weekend Mass. If your family is interested in participating in this special tradition, please arrive at church 20 minutes before Mass starts and let the deacon know that you are interested in carrying in the Advent candle.
