This week we honor those who have served our nation in the armed forces. The theme for this year's celebration is "Honor." Honor reflects the military tradition of answering the call to duty...a duty to protect our way of life and the Constitution of the United States. We have begun reading "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, but you can still join us! The book club meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, so we will be meeting this coming Thursday to discuss Chapters 2 & 3. Please join us!

Please pray the Rosary daily, not only in May, but always! Although we honor Our Blessed Mother especially in May and October, our world today needs her more than ever. Our May Crowning will take place on May 29 at the 11 am Mass.

Like the statue of Saint Anthony that was recently replaced, the statue of St. Patrick is also in need of replacement. Any parishioner or devotee of St. Patrick is welcome to contribute to the acquisition of this sacred image. Please enclose your gift in an envelope that is clearly marked For St. Patrick. On Thursday, April 28. at 10:00 am, Bishop O’Connell will celebrate a Mass for the reception of the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis at St. Domenic Parish, Brick. During the Mass the Bishop will announce that he is placing all Catholic Schools in our Diocese under the special patronage of Blessed Carlo Acutis (1991-2006). Like the Statue of Saint Anthony that has been recently replaced, the statue of St. Patrick has undergone a number of face-lifts and repairs. Any parishioner and devotee of St. Patrick is welcome to contribute to the acquisition of this sacred image. Click the article title for more information.

It would certainly compliment the statue of St. Anthony—being of hand carved Lindenwood.

The Holy Season of Lent is observed this year from Ash Wednesday (March 2) until Holy Thursday (April 14). The Bishops of the United States have prescribed that this season be marked by more intense prayer, works of charity, and penance. Among these are the practices of fasting and abstinence. Thanks to all who generously contributed to a new statue of St. Anthony, we have reached our goal! The hand-carved linden wood image, crafted by Demetz Studio of Ortisei, Italy, is in production and will take a few months to arrive. More about this addition to our parish patrimony upon its arrival.

Wednesday, August 11, marks the 140th year since the creation of our Diocese. It was established by Pope Leo XIII, who appointed the Reverend Michael J. O’Farrell, a native of Limerick, Ireland, as its first bishop. For some interesting history, click the article title.
