In centuries past, the cross of terminal illness was seen as an opportunity to be compassionate to the sick and for "offering up" of suffering for the good of others by the sick. There is a process of "letting go" and entrustment to God by everyone that needs to happen, a process that must not be short-circuited by euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide. Monday, January 22, marks the 51st anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe vs Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. While on June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, overturned the ruling, it moved the debate on abortion to the States. Thus, the work of establishing a culture of life where every human person is protected from conception to natural death continues. We are pleased to share the news that Susan Commini, a member of our parish staff for Pastoral Outreach, has successfully completed the course of study in the Annulment Training Program and has been duly commissioned as an advocate for the Diocese of Trenton. This means that Susan is available to assist those seeking a declaration of nullity of a former marriage.

During December, 171.5 hours of service were provided by 31 volunteers to 29 persons. Caring Hearts volunteers provide non-medical services to our homebound elderly and disabled neighbors. The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption invites you to a Mass for Life at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 24. Mass will conclude in time to walk to the 11 AM Rally for Life at the Statehouse Annex in Trenton. A peaceful March will follow the rally at 1 PM.
