The Church’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has stated that gender-affirming surgeries and surrogacy are grave violations of human dignity since they are inconsistent with God’s plan for human life.
This teaching is grounded in genuinely confirmed reality. One is born either male or female, and this also applies to hermaphrodites who, though they manifest both male and female anatomical aspects at birth, are either biological males or females.
The Church recognizes that every human person is created in the image and likeness of God, male or female (Gen. 1:26-27). Thus, we should act in love toward those who experience a gender identity disorder, and should reprove those who engage in name-calling and other uncharitable behavior toward them.
