The Scarlet and the Black (1983)

Gregory Peck portrays Msgr. Hugh Flaherty, aka the Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican, during World War II. He helped save the lives of nearly 6,500 people wanted by the Nazis.

The Assisi Underground (1978)

Recounts the successful efforts of Padre Rufino Niccacci, a Franciscan Priest and other residents of Assisi to shelter and protect three hundred Jews and to provide others with false papers, all under the noses of the Nazi occupiers. Starring Ben Cross, James Mason, Irene Pappas, and Maximilian Schell.

Cabrini (2024)—

Retells the story of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, foundress of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who combatted disease and poverty in the slums of New York and the resistance of a hostile mayor to provide housing and healthcare for poor immigrants and orphans.   It stars Cristiana Dell’Anna, David Morse, Giancarlo Giannini and John Lithgow.

For Greater Glory (2012)—

Recounts the bitter and bloody feud between the persecuted Catholics and the tyrannical, atheistic Mexican government during the 1920s that erupted into the “Cristero War.” It stars Andy Garcia, Peter O’Toole, Eva Longoria, and Mauricio Kuri as Jose Luis Sanchez, the brave young martyr who would not deny his faith.
