A New Memorial Added to the Church’s Calendar . . .
Mary Mother of the Church
Monday, June 10, the Church celebrates the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church [
B. Mariæ Virginis, Ecclesiæ Matris]. It is an obligatory memorial established by a decree of Pope Francis in 2018 that is to be celebrated annually on the day after Pentecost.
Cardinal Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, said that the Holy Father wished to promote this devotion in order to “encourage the growth of the maternal sense of the Church in the pastors, religious and faithful, as well as a growth of genuine Marian piety.”
