Rite of Christian Initiation (OCIA)
If you would like to become a Catholic, or are just curious about what Catholicism is and what we believe as Catholics, please join us in the RCIA classes, which are held weekly from September through April.
RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process whereby adults enter the Catholic Church. To become a Catholic, one must understand the teachings of the Church, believe in those teachings, and be a baptized Catholic. Those who are not baptized will study the teachings through RCIA and conclude their journey with the reception of the Sacrament of Baptism into the Church. Those who were baptized as a Protestant will likewise study via RCIA and conclude their journey with their reception into the Church by a priest.
RCIA requires not only academic preparation but also a commitment to the Church's teachings. You must be willing to live out an authentic Catholic life and strive to imitate our Lord and live a holy life.
Baptized Catholics who need to receive their First Holy Communion or be Confirmed are also welcome to participate in the RCIA educational experience. Sacraments are typically made at the Easter Vigil or Pentecost, depending on each individual's journey.
In Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony Parish, RCIA is a year-round process with classes meeting 2 times per month during the summer and weekly beginning in early September. Inquirers are welcome to join us anytime during the year.
Meetings are held in the Church Meeting Room on the Our Lady of Sorrows campus, on Tuesday evenings, from September through April, at 7:30 – 9:00 pm, unless otherwise scheduled.RCIA Summer 2023 Schedule
