Books can change lives. The best example to support this statement is the Bible. No book in the history of the world is credited with changing more lives than the Bible. However, in addition the Bible, there are other books by great Catholic/Christian authors that can encourage us to live lives of holiness and grow closer to Our Lord, the Holy Mother, and the Saints. This type of reading is known as spiritual reading. The OLS/SA Catholic Reading Group’s main goal is to select and read spiritual books that will help us to become even better followers of Christ and to “Be doers of the word and not just hearers of the word,” (James 1:22).
Since the group was formed a few years ago we have read 16 books, some of which are listed below so you can see the type we study:
Confessions of Saint Augustine
The Apostolic Fathers
The Lamb’s Supper - Scott Hahn
Jesus of Nazareth ( 3 volumes ) - Pope Benedict XVI
The World’s First Love - Bishop Sheen
We just started reading Frank Sheed’s
Theology for Beginners and it is not too late to join us in our study of this classic. We meet every other Thursday from September thru May in the Church Library from 7 to 8 pm.
