I believe a catechist is
called to echo the faith and to bring the light of Christ to children entrusted to us. I shared the Confirmation journey with four of my grandchildren when they were in 6
th, 7
th, and 8
th grade over the years and loved it!
In addition to the
calling, catechists also need to have the following qualifications:
first and foremost—have a personal relationship with Christ and be active in the Catholic Church by attending Mass every Sunday and receiving the sacraments frequently
obtain certification so we actually know what we teaching about the Catholic faith (and we receive a great deal of support in this area)
MUST genuinely like being with children
MUST have PATIENCE, which is a real virtue!
I am starting my 11
th year as a catechist. When God calls—he calls. Perhaps there is someone here today feeling called to this ministry—and you know who you are…
Our parish has an RCIA Team in place to introduce aspects of Catholic beliefs and practices to prospective converts interested in exploring Catholicism. RCIA is an acronym for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Those enrolled prepare to celebrate their Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Weekly evening classes begin this week.
If you are interested in getting involved in the faith formation of our youth or adults, please contact the parish office. Your witness is so crucial since it’s been said, “our faith is more caught than taught!”
