New Jersey, like the rest of the country, made 988 a hotline number for crisis and suicide prevention. The new hotline number launched on July 16.
New Jersey residents are now connected to a national network of mental health professionals available for assistance, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, who will conduct an assessment to determine if additional help is needed. A local mobile response team will be dispatched when necessary.
The existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255) will also continue to work.
