Religious Employers in NJ Will Now Be Forced to Cover Abortion-Inducing Drugs
With a stroke of a pen, Governor Murphy removed long-standing protections in law by signing Bill S3804/A5508. The law will force religious employers to cover abortion-inducing drugs in their health insurance plans.
NJRTL joined the NJ Catholic Conference and testified in opposition to the bill and issued Action Alerts urging lawmakers to vote against it.
Language in the bill specifically says, "The bill removes the exemption in current law for religious employers to provide coverage for female contraceptives if the required coverage conflicts with the employer's bonafide religious beliefs and practices."
Coincidentally, or by design, Governor Murphy signed this bill on the same day President Donald Trump issued a Proclamation declaring January 16th, Religioius Freedom Day in the US.
