On March XX, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Doctrine, and Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued a
statement on the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine recently approved for use in the United States.
The statement explains the moral questions raised by each of the vaccines approved by the US government. The difference is that the J&J vaccine used abortion-derived cell lines in not only the testing phases, but also in production, whereas the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines only used abortion-derived cell lines in the testing phase. If you have a choice about which vaccine to receive, the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines are morally preferable to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. statement from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
