This Tuesday our nation salutes the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States. Our veterans who pursued the call of duty at great personal cost, are the noblest of American citizens. Shielding us from danger, preserving the peace, defending our values, they have been the face of hope in dark places and a force for good in the world. How proud we are to say, “Thanks for your service!”
Don’t forget to vote this Tuesday…a most important day for the Garden State! The Catechism (#2239) reminds us that “the duty to vote is one of co-responsibility for society… As Catholics our consciences should be specifically informed as to the greatest moral principles, so that we may vote with them in mind."

History was made recently when Planned Parenthood and other big businesses were banned from receiving federal Medicaid dollars for a period of one year. However, Planned Parenthood sued, and a preliminary court ordered injunction was granted that requires taxpayer funding to continue. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops invites Catholics to pray daily throughout this month to end taxpayer funding of the abortion industry, invoking St. Joseph, Defender of Life. Click here for the prayer.
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court legalized abortion throughout the United States. Although the Dobbs v. Jackson decision by the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it left the decision on abortion to the states, and our state of New Jersey is one of those which are hostile to unborn children. Our prayer and advocacy are still very needed. Pro-woman IS pro-life, and pro-life IS pro-woman. The idea that abortion empowers women is one of many lies in society that are, in reality, incredibly harmful to women. Abortion advocates perpetuate the myth that women must do violence to themselves in order to preserve their equality and the freedom to advance in the world. There will be a meeting of the Prayer Shawl Group on Monday, October 21, at 1:00 PM in the Church Meeting Room. Please come and meet the new leadership!
In centuries past, the cross of terminal illness was seen as an opportunity to be compassionate to the sick and for "offering up" of suffering for the good of others by the sick. There is a process of "letting go" and entrustment to God by everyone that needs to happen, a process that must not be short-circuited by euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide. Click here for more information on end-of -life care.
Given the scientific fact that a human life begins at conception, the only moral norm needed to understand the Church's opposition to abortion is the principle that each and every human life has inherent dignity, and thus must be treated with the respect due to a human person.
